What does a Video Editor actually do?

A video editor assembles shot footage into a coherent, paced final cut — choosing which takes to use, how long to hold a shot, where to cut, and how sound, music and graphics support the story.

The craft spans everything from feature films and OTT series to YouTube content, corporate videos and social media reels, each with very different pacing conventions and turnaround expectations.
